A problem’s not a problem until it becomes a problem. Dare we say it, that’s how most of us treat all of our plumbing and pipe maintenance. We don’t really fix the small glitches until they all add up to become one big plumbing disaster.

Well, we’re here to tell you that fixing the little leaks as they come along can save you some money in the long-run, and quite a bit of stress. When little problems arise, be sure to call Dash Drains. We will be there in a jiffy to tune up and maintain your pipes in good working order, and work together to prevent any major issues.

Here are a few tips for some preventative plumbing maintenance you should do to avoid an enormous backup into your home:

Fix those leaking faucets and showerheads

The drip can get worse over time, your water bill will go up, and the leaky water can cause damage – just fix it now. Really, just fix it.

Unclog your slow drains

This is the first sign there could be a potential problem with your pipes, so get it checked out when you notice the water is taking more time to drain than it should.

Check all exposed pipes and appliances for water leaks

Your appliances leaking could cause a lot of damage to your home or business. Check for leaks around your refrigerator and washer. Installing a drip tray under your water heater and washer could help prevent leak damage, too.

Fix leaking toilets

This could save you hassle and money from a gunky film forming around several inner parts, causing problems with how your toilet runs.

Be careful about what you flush or pour down the drain

This is the easiest form of prevention – if you don’t think it will fit through your pipes, it may be best to not try to flush or wash it down.

Drain your water heater twice a year

Performing this task will help reduce sediment in your water heater, which will keep it running smoothly. Check the burner chamber inside the water heater as well. You shouldn’t see any flakes of rust and the flame should be a blue color with no yellow in it. If you notice anything problematic, the jets may need to be cleaned out.

Regularly inspect your septic tank

Add pumping your septic tank to your list of important maintenance tasks, too.
